At what’s quickly becoming the biggest and most popular storage show in the US, IT professionals, industry partners, and the media were welcomed by an on going demonstration of the iSCSI V Switch™ from SANRAD, a member of the RAD Group.

The SANRAD demonstration area contained a Gb Ethernet/ FC SAN. Several fibre-channel JBODs were attached to the FC storage ports provided by the iSCSI V Switch™. The JBOD storage was virtualized and allocated to several networked hosts attached through a 3com Gb Ethernet Switch to the iSCSI Gb Ethernet network ports native on the iSCSI V Switch™. The hosts used standard iSCSI drivers from SANRAD and from Cisco. The SANRAD enabled SAN streamed two videos with full audio at full wire speeds from the JBOD’s out to the hosts.

"We believe it’s important to keep pace with customer wants and needs" says Eyal Felstaine, President and CEO of SANRAD. "For a long time customers have wanted an approach that’s simple like NAS, but has the performance characteristics of a fibre-channel SAN, the iSCSI V Switch™ delivers both"

"Performance and scalability drove the internal design" says Gadi Erlich, VP of Engineering "We’ve incorporated the fastest processors, SANRAD BUS architecture and our iSCSI stack into this first member of the V Switch Family. The solution performs at wire speeds.

Gil Chaouat, Director of Product Management, of SANRAD has been working with distributors and users to define the iSCSI V Switch™ so as to meet the needs of the market. "Our feature set is driven by interviews with end-users and distributors. We are focusing on solving real problems for network administrators. We want to avoid marketing trends and focus on customer trends".

"IT professionals really like the convergence of three very valuable technologies into one solution" comments Zophar Sante VP of Market Development for SANRAD Inc. "People are very excited about Gb Ethernet- it’s fast and familiar while delivering an incredible roadmap with dramatic cost reduction. Next is iSCSI, a standards based and secure storage protocol. It’s already supported by almost all the big names in computing and it works. Last is block level storage management via virtualization. People want to precisely manage their storage as one pool with one simple interface."

About the iSCSI V Switch™ Family – Bridging, Routing, Switching and Virtualization

The iSCSI V Switch™ is a network centric, storage management and virtualization solution. It includes the iSCSI V Switch™ 3000 and a browser based management GUI. The iSCSI V Switch™ supports the new, standards based, iSCSI TCP/IP storage protocol in addition to the existing fibre-channel protocol. This provides networked hosts with secure and trusted access to a variety of user configurable, logical volumes residing across diverse storage systems within a SAN. The iSCSI V Switch™ operates in the data-path of a storage network, independent of hosts, storage, and existing switches or hubs. Installation requires no unique host agents and no additional special hardware. It provides a single, easy to use connectivity and management platform for IT professionals responsible for administering small to enterprise class storage resources.

The iSCSI V Switch™ storage management and virtualization features gather all physical storage resources (SCSI, iSCSI and FC) into a single pool. Network administrators can define new logical volumes from these pooled resources independent of physical barriers such as enclosures, physical disks, protocols, and distance. The iSCSI V Switch™ provides multiple storage and host network ports and can perform block level storage routing. It provides volume mirroring, striping, remote copy, drive concatenation, precise LUN carving (as low as a few hundred Kilobytes), snapshot, multi-pathing, port performance aggregation, selectable QoS per host, in addition to port, path, and V Switch failover.
