SAN Backup Solution

date] SANRAD announces certification of BakBone’s NetVaultä
backup and recovery protection software. BakBone Software™ (TSE:
BKB), a global provider of storage management software and
SANRAD Inc., a global provider of iSCSI storage virtualization
Switches, Routers and Bridges announced today interoperability
between SANRAD’s iSCSI V Switch and BakBone's backup and
recovery software, NetVault. In addition to interoperability,
the two companies have partnered to introduce the combined
solution to the iSCSI market.
Over the past three months
SANRAD has been installing evaluation units of the iSCSI V
Switch in select businesses. The iSCSI V Switch enables
network administrators with diverse applications to use
existing FC and SCSI storage to build highly available and
fault tolerant iSCSI SANs. SANRADs iSCSI V Switch in-band
virtualization feature gathers all physical storage resources
(SCSI, iSCSI and FC) into a single pool. From these pooled
resources, network administrators can define new virtual
volumes that are independent of physical barriers such as
enclosures, physical disks, protocols, or distance. SANRAD’s
list of virtual volume types include mirrored volumes, striped
volumes, volume copies, large volumes (hundreds of GBs), and
precise volumes (as low as a few hundred kilobytes). SANRAD
virtualization also provides local synchronous mirroring and
automatic fail-over.
BakBone's NetVault uses iSCSI
over IP to access each one of the virtual volumes provided by
the iSCSI V Switch. NetVault can perform a broad range of
data-protection operations to either the files resident on the
virtual volumes or the virtual volumes themselves. Moreover,
NetVault can provide backup and restore from one virtual
volume to another virtual volume within the same iSCSI V
Switch SAN as well as from one iSCSI V Switch SAN to a remote
iSCSI V Switch SAN located over IP across a MAN or WAN.
NetVault data-preservation solutions and options include
disaster recovery-bare metal restore, open file backup, SAN
and NAS support, SAN/NAS convergence, virtual tape libraries,
Jumbo packet data transfer over iSCSI and a host of other
features.
