Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the
Agilent Tachyon iSCSI development kit, which offers IP storage
subsystem manufacturers a significant time-to-market advantage
for iSCSI (Internet protocol small computer system interface)
product development. With the Agilent iSCSI development kit,
system vendors can begin iSCSI development right away so as to
populate system boards with iSCSI controller chips in time to
meet 2002 IP-SAN (IP-storage area network) deployment
schedules.
Agilent Fibre Channel customers
that plan to offer iSCSI solutions can use the Agilent iSCSI
development kit to migrate their Fibre Channel software to the
iSCSI platform. The Agilent iSCSI development kit offers a
consistent API (application programming interface) across both
Fibre Channel and iSCSI technologies, thereby making more
efficient use of customer engineering resources and reducing
time to market.
iSCSI operates with the TCP/IP
protocol to enable block level data to be accessed anywhere
within an Ethernet network. Because iSCSI runs over currently
installed networks, it provides a cost-effective storage
networking solution that's easy to install, manage and
service. The iSCSI standard is designed to provide very high
levels of dependability and performance, characteristics that
are required for mission-critical storage applications.
Agilent is a leading provider of Fibre Channel solutions for
storage networks, and is also a world leader in fiber optics
and ICs for the Ethernet market. request

"Agilent leveraged its
Fibre Channel and Ethernet experience into a robust iSCSI
development kit that gives our customers a head start
designing their next-generation storage networking
subsystems," said Julian Elliott, vice president of
Agilent's Storage Networking Division. "We are applying
our broad technical resources to develop an extensive
portfolio of IP-SAN products that will become the heart of
future storage networks." data

Agilent's IP-SAN product plans
include a range of high-performance iSCSI controllers, host
bus adapters (HBAs), fiber optic transceivers, physical layer
ICs and a roadmap scaling these products to 10 Gb/s (gigabits
per second). Agilent was the first company to demonstrate
IETF-compliant iSCSI technology at last year's fall
Networld+Interop with Hewlett-Packard Company. Agilent is
currently active with industry standardization efforts and
interoperability testing with the industry's leading system
and storage providers. Agilent plans to sample 1 Gb/s iSCSI
controllers and HBAs in the first half of 2002.
Agilent Tachyon iSCSI
Development Kit
The Agilent Tachyon iSCSI
development kit includes a "quick start"
installation card and a 66 MHz PCI development board. The
iSCSI development kit also features a software development
kit; API (application programming interface) supporting iSCSI
initiator/target, standard networking and network offload
features; programmers guide; iSCSI architecture
specifications; and CD with API software, documentation and
sample initiator and target drivers for Linux, Windows(R) and
VxWorks operating systems. The iSCSI development kit is
operating system- and hardware-independent, offers full duplex
operation and provides debug and test capabilities.
