today announced an iSCSI storage appliance, a low-cost
alternative to Fibre Channel, for small to mid-sized
businesses.
Called the Addonics iSCSI Subsystem, it is the first in
Addonics’ upcoming line-up of high performance iSCSI storage
appliances.
The Subsystem is a dedicated RAID/iSCSI stack with an
integrated hardware RAID controller delivering enterprise
class iSCSI features in a 5.25" form factor unit complete
with LCD display module. It supports up to eight SATA I/II
hard drives with the ability to connect to many more hard
drives using hardware port multipliers for a maximum storage
capacity of 128TB.
The iSCSI Subsystem includes 1GB ECC memory and two 1-Gbit
(1000Mbit) Ethernet ports with load balancing and fail-over
for high availability, ensuring the integrity of mission
critical data over extended periods of time. It is designed
to fit inside a standard 5 1/4 drive bay and can be
installed into many desktop enclosures, rack mounted
systems, Addonics Storage Towers or Storage Racks.
You can customize your own multi-tera bytes storage farm
with powerful RAID and expansion capabilities utilizing
Addonics family of port multipliers, disk array back planes
and removable drive systems.
The new Addonics appliance supports nearly every type of
RAID configuration. A total of 256 logical volumes can be
added to the iSCSI Subsystem. The on-line volume expansion
and RAID level migration features makes the iSCSI Subsystem
an excellent choice for accommodating changes in future
storage requirements.
Addonics iSCSI Subsystem
comes in choice of models with or without the Snapshot
function. The Snapshot, similar to the roll-back software or
the Windows System Restore, enables the iSCSI appliance to
record the state of the storage system at user preset time
intervals. This provides extra protection against data
corruption and faster data recovery in case of a disaster or
an inadvertent data modification.
The Addonics iSCSI appliance provides advanced management
capability via a web based GUI (Graphical User Interface),
accessible from any browser over the local network. For
remote access, SSH (secure shell) client software can be
used to manage the iSCSI Subsystem from virtually any
location with an internet connection.
