SBE Demonstrates Enterprise-Level Performance of iSCSI Over 10G at Storage Networking World

Optimal 10G Performance and Reliability Without Need for Costly Infrastructure Investments

Storage Networking World Fall 2005
Booth #C32

SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 2005--SBE, Inc. (Nasdaq:SBEI), a leading provider of high-performance IP-based networking solutions for next-generation storage and communications systems, will be demonstrating enterprise-level performance and full error recovery with its flagship iSCSI software at Storage Networking World (SNW) in Orlando from October 25-26, 2005 (Booth #C32). The iSCSI solutions will be showcased in a 10-Gigabit Ethernet Linux environment, as well as over multiple 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports within a Microsoft Windows(R) setting.

With the immediate availability and increasing adoption of off-the-shelf 10-Gigabit Ethernet hardware, IP SANs (storage area networks) can push to higher performance levels than ever before at more affordable price points. SBE's robust, software-based iSCSI implementation enables an upgrade to 10G networks while maintaining existing infrastructure investments. This innovative solution allows small to mid-sized businesses to benefit from enterprise-level performance and reliability at a fraction of the cost of Fibre Channel.

"iSCSI, with its ability to make networks available to any authorized user at any location in the world with an Ethernet connection, has helped to break down distance barriers and expand the virtual workforce," said Nick Bellinger, Chief iSCSI Architect at SBE. "And now, as companies begin to implement iSCSI over 10G infrastructures, we'll see an acceleration of IP storage adoption as performance, latency, and quality of service start to meet and/or exceed what is capable in existing SAN environments. These factors in combination with evolving management and storage transport standards will further drive improvements in productivity and communication across businesses and industries worldwide."

"At SNW, we'll demonstrate iSCSI over multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports reaching real storage transfer rates that are as fast over the network as local storage. And as storage subsystems continue to migrate to higher speeds, this will apply to 10G systems as well," continued Bellinger.

iSNS Client and Server

SBE's PyX iSCSI software now features full iSNS (Internet Storage Name Service) Server and Client protocol support, in compliance with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) RFC-4171 standard specification. The iSNS protocol can be used by Internet Protocol (IP) based storage devices to facilitate automated discovery, management, and configuration of storage resources on an IP network. Enabling automatic identification and connection of storage resources significantly reduces integration time while also minimizing configuration errors.

SBE's PyX iSCSI Software Solution

SBE's PyX iSCSI software ensures seamless data migration by employing a unique uniform, multi-channel data transmission approach. The iSCSI technology, fully compliant with the IETF RFC-3270 standard, enables an enterprise-level IP storage platform that transports data to and from networked storage with full error recovery, load balancing, and multi-path capabilities previously available only in costly Fibre Channel architectures. PyX's iSCSI products offer no distance limitations and are capable of interfacing with SATA, SCSI, Fibre Channel, PATA and other storage devices. The storage-independent architecture of the PyX iSCSI software allows customers to conveniently and cost-effectively integrate the benefits of SANs using their existing networking investments.
