Cancer Center Turns to NetApp

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Network Appliance(TM), Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP), the leader in advanced networked storage solutions for today's data-intensive enterprise, announced that The Regional Cancer Center (TRCC) has adopted a NetApp IP SAN solution to support critical business and clinical applications. TRCC depends on NetApp storage systems with iSCSI technology to ensure the reliability of the center's electronic medical records (EMR) infrastructure, and to enable under-an-hour disaster recovery, reduce data management costs, and support TRCC's continued infrastructure growth and visionary plans.

The migration of the entire TRCC storage infrastructure to a NetApp IP SAN represents a major milestone in a complete infrastructure overhaul. The NetApp solution will help the center achieve its goal of a transition to electronic medical records. The EMR initiative reflects an IT philosophy that all systems must be integrated to provide instant and shared information access to everyone involved in treating patients in multiple locations.

The NetApp storage architecture supports an IMPAC EMR system, Microsoft(R) Exchange mail services, and SQL Server-based financial systems. The solution design represents the collaboration of NetApp, The Forquer Group, TRCC, and other healthcare IT professionals.

"We needed a technology that would be easy to manage, deploy, and maintain," said Nelson Puello, manager of IT at TRCC. "The NetApp IP SAN allowed us to leverage our existing Ethernet infrastructure and IT expertise and meet those requirements -- we started and ended the deployment with just two IT administrators."

"The NetApp IP SAN prepares us for the future -- for growth, support of expanding patient services, and new IT-dependent patient care technologies," said Kandy Susi, chief financial officer at TRCC. "Quality, integrated care and keeping pace with clinical advances demand a resilient data management infrastructure."

"NetApp unified storage systems in IP SAN configurations combine the performance and reliability absolutely essential in a healthcare environment where both patient services and business operations critically depend on data accessibility," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Marketing at Network Appliance. "At the same time, NetApp offers architectural simplicity and low cost of ownership, which are vital in an industry constantly compelled to reduce costs. With a NetApp solution, healthcare organizations have the enabling foundation needed to pursue new, information-intensive treatment and care programs."
